Learn More About Halo Reach Multiplayer Modes

You may have heard a lot about Halo Reach – but how much do you actually know about Halo Reach multiplayer modes? In this article we will explore more about Halo Reach multiplayer modes, hopefully so you can try them out for yourself.

The first of the Halo Reach multiplayer modes is the beta version which was unveiled to people who owned copies of Halo 3: ODST (an earlier title in the Halo series.) It is important to cite this beta version because the developer Bungie took the unique step of letting Halo series fans test the game and report glitches to the developer. Testing of the beta version involved the input of over 2.7 million lucky customers and the multiplayer beta testing itself took up to 17 days. Playing time reached a total of 16 million hours.

Halo Reach multiplayer modes

halo reach multiplayer modesIf you own an Xbox 360, you can actually try the player-against-player version of the Halo Reach multiplayer modes using the splitscreen function. There are basic Halo Reach multiplayer modes known as the “Slayer” and the “King of the Hill”, to start off. Developer Bungie also formulated other Halo Reach multiplayer modes such as “Headhunter” and “Stockpile”. In Headhunter mode, skulls of players who die will drop to the ground – the job of the other players is to collect these skulls to be placed at specific zones to earn points. In “Stockpile” mode, each team of players has to beat the other team at collecting neutral flags plus hang on to the flags so that points can be awarded.

halo reach multiplayer modesIn addition to these modes, there are the “Generator Defense”, “Invasion” and the “Firefight” modes. Under “Generator Defense”, three Spartans will enter combat with three members of the Covenant army who are known as Elites. The Spartans’ task is to protect three generators from the Elites who will attempt to wreck those installations. Players can exchange roles after each round. “Invasion” mode requires the Spartans to fight Elites to prevent the latter from retrieving a navigation core and moving it to a dropship. Interestingly enough, at one point in this mode the Elites will be fighting amongst themselves (rather than just against Spartans.) The “Firefight” mode is one of the hardest because it is a test of survival for the player. The player has to fight against wave upon wave of new enemies – to make this mode more interesting, the player can adjust the number of enemies he must combat against, as well as the type of foes he will battle.

A unique part of the Halo Reach world is the part known as Forge World. Forge World is actually a huge empty map which the player can edit as he wishes. There are also some maps that developer Bungie specially created that can be found in Forge World. A player also has some leeway over how Forge tools can be used.

Halo Reach Multiplayer Modes (Versions)

For the retail release of Halo Reach, the game was introduced in three versions. A manual is included in the standard edition that contains the game. Those who purchased the limited edition were able to bone up on the story of Halo Reach through the artefact bag, plus received a set of in-game armour designed for the Elite soldiers. The packaging of the limited edition was different from that of the standard edition. All the components of the limited edition are contained as well in the Legendary Edition (which also sports packaging that differs from the standard and limited edition versions.)  If you are interested in commentary about eliminated scenes by the developers, then you may want to get the Legendary Edition. It also has in-game armour effects for the Spartans as well as a statue weighing 4.5 kilograms from McFarlane Toys. All Halo Reach multiplayer modes differ slightly in each version.

halo reach multiplayer modesA unique aspect about Halo Reach history is that hackers have been able to get the game and download it ahead of the release date. This occurred as Microsoft introduced the game as a download for media review only on the Xbox Live Marketplace in August 2010. The download was supposed to be available when 99999 Microsoft Points were presented (a value of around 1250 US dollars) but the hackers were eventually able to distribute the game title online. Perhaps this is a sign of just how popular the Halo Reach title was even ahead of its official launch date.

There is no doubt though that Microsoft was aware of how valuable the gaming title was and is. Microsoft allotted its biggest marketing budget to the title which was introduced to 25 countries at its launch date. The marketing push did not go unnoticed – for instance, during the MI6 Game Marketing Conference Awards alone, Halo Reach was able to snare up to thirteen medals. This was a good indicator that Halo Reach was well received both by industry peers and the general public alike.
